Jess Macpherson is an embodied movement practitioner, artist and teacher. She is an experienced Yoga teacher and a maker whose work teeters on the borders of dance, physical theatre and live art.
Playful and probing. Complex and simple. She makes live work in a digital world. She makes live work to question the digital world.
Jess’ practice is often preoccupied with issues around feminism and social justice. She spends time examining female identities and notions of femininity. Her work asks how can we move and create movements towards a multiplicity of ways to be female? How can performance practice be used as a tool to create discussions around gender equality?
Jess is based in Salisbury, Wilts. She has received mentoring and support from Arts Council England, Bath Dance, Live Art Development Agency, The Bristol Biennial and Wiltshire Creative.
She is currently completing her PhD at Bath Spa University. Jess has previously gained an MA from Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance and graduated from Dartington College of Arts with a 1st class BA (Hons) in Choreography.
